Project
The International Excellence Campus “Smart Energy” project is a regional based, integrating initiative from a group comprising two universities (University of Alcalá and King Juan Carlos University), two companies (Ferrovial and Repsol), two research centres (CIEMAT and IMDEA Energía), and one public corporate entity, the IDAE.
The main aspects of the project are:
2 Areas of Focus: Bioenergy and Smart Infrastructures. Within the framework of this project, the bioenergy area covers the production of fuels from renewable resources without impacting on food markets: second generation biofuels. The second area of focus proposes sensible energy use in both transportation and buildings. Developing infrastructures that optimise energy consumption is essential for saving resources.
2 multinational Spanish innovative companies: Repsol and Ferrovial. The involvement of two multinational Spanish companies from the outset, leaders in their respective sectors (Repsol in energy and Ferrovial in smart infrastructures), strengthens the project for the challenge ahead.
2 Autonomous Communities in which operations are based: The Community of Madrid and Castilla La Mancha.
2 public universities and 2 public research entities: King Juan Carlos University, the University of Alcalá, the Research Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology (CIEMAT), and the Madrid Institute for Advanced Energy Studies (IMDEA Energía). Both universities and both public research organisations provide research and teaching capabilities, as well as their own resources to help implement and develop the project.
7 different project components: The (R+D) Bioenergy Programme, promoted by Repsol; the (R+D) Smart Infrastructures Programme, promoted by Ferrovial; the Research School, integrating doctorate and postgraduate studies; the Continuous Vocational Training Programme; the Sustainable City Pilot Programme; the Business Incubator; and smart and efficient Governance of the group.
7 Partners have already subscribed to a Group Agreement. The project is under way with seven partners having signed a collaboration agreement: URJC, UAH, CIEMAT, IMDEA Energía, REPSOL, FERROVIAL, and IDAE.
